One of mankind's oldest foods
Honey bees have been on the planet a lot longer than humans. But from the very beginning, man has sought out the nourishing properties of this ancient food.
A typical blended honey contains 75‐80% sugar, with the rest being a mixture of moisture and minerals including phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and enzymes.
Honey can also contain traces of iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, selenium, manganese, vitamins C and B. So, depending on the flowers a bee has visited, honey can contain up to 12 more vitamins and minerals than sugar, and is 100% fat free!
Honey vs. Sugar
Did you know honey naturally tastes sweeter on the palate than regular cane sugar - one teaspoon of honey has the same flavour sweetness as 2 teaspoons of sugar. This makes honey a perfect substitute for reducing your sugar consumption in tea or coffee.
Honey also has 10% less fructose and a much healthier Glycemic Index (GI) compared to conventional sugar.
