Capilano does not label domestic products with Halal Certification, however it is a requirement of some of our export markets. Since 1953 Capilano has developed exports markets in some 42 countries around the world, this has been done to support the Australian honey industry that in normal seasons produces surplus honey to that required domestically.
If this honey is not exported there would be a glut of honey in the domestic market and the returns to our Australian beekeeper suppliers would fall dramatically.
Halal requirements are demanded by some international customers and this is simply a market access issue. The associated costs are minimal and are borne by the customers. Export is a crucial component of our business and helps the profitability and sustainability of our business for our suppliers and shareholders.
